Our club was formed in May 2013 with the aim of making club cycling accessible to all, allowing riders of all levels of ability to experience the enjoyment of riding in a group, whilst riding safely and showing respect to all road users.
We have 2 core rides per week, on a Sunday morning and Tuesday evening, and these are supplemented by other rides posted by club members throughout the week (see “Rides” for more information). Both of these core rides are designed to be at a steady social pace, with time for a chat, and on a Sunday in particular always broken up by a coffee shop stop.
One of the most frequently comments by prospective members, in particular those either new to cycling or returning after a break, is “I don’t want to slow you down”. The key thing to remember about our Sunday and Tuesday rides is that no-one gets left behind. If you’re looking to build up your confidence and fitness then we are able to be flexible on these rides to accommodate you, just let us know in advance that you’re coming along as a guest rider and give us a indication of your current ability.
If you’re further down the line in terms of your cycling performance then we do have faster rides initiated by those who want them. We’re not a speed based club, more about enjoying the ride, so you can hopefully find the right one for you
All HWVC club members have a duty of care to ensure that everyone can participate in club activities in a safe and enjoyable way.
